Induction Through Hardening

Heating of a zone or a component completely through the cross section of the material rather than hardening only a surface area.

Induction through hardening of medium and high carbon steels typically requires a longer heat cycle than surface hardening of steels. Even when using deep penetrating low frequencies, heating for a close core vs. surface temperature differential takes time to soak to the center of the component. One must properly regulate the induction power level to ensure the surface of the object is not overheated.
